I upcycled some old DVD cases into art cases for some of the children in my family. I got the idea from this website post.

My family and I have, sadly, lost my father to this world. Thankfully, he kept a lot of wonderful journals over the years, giving his children insight into his thinking and feelings that they may not have otherwise known. As a gift to my family in 2012, I used quotes from his journals and pieces of his clothing to make some of the following things.

And here’s a milk jug upcycle.  I kind of wish I had the foresight at the time to document how I did that in case others would like a step-by-step.  It was quite an easy craft and would probably make a fun centerpiece for Thanksgiving or something.

  1. I LOVE the idea of the shadow box for your dad’s journal. My FIL passed two years ago and he wrote songs. I would love to do something similar as you to frame his songs and hang them around my house 🙂

    • Thank you, Barb. I wanted to do something to give everyone a piece of him to remember. It was emotional and therapeutic all wrapped up together, but I believe my family really loved them. I think doing something using your father-in-law’s songs would be a lovely idea.
